How do you celebrate Black History Month?
I support Black businesses, Black events, and Black art while also spending time and surrounding myself with friends and family.
What do you love about your Black culture?
Coming from a biracial background, I was taught to be proud of everything I am. Black people have been in the forefront of some of the greatest cultural movements in history, especially in music. I’m proud to witness that and hopefully be a part of that someday.
Who is your favorite figure in Black History and how did they impact you?
It would have to be James Baldwin – I think that his words resonate and touch the masses and are also integral to the Black experience. He was an incredibly intelligent mind and everyone should read his work!
Who do you feel is currently making Black History in the present?
Black creatives like Issa Rae and Quinta Brunson who have developed their platforms by having their initial start through social media. It allows for artists to be received by the masses through social media like Big Boss Vette or Coi Leray!
Who is your favorite Black music artist?
It’s hard to pick just one! I love FKA Twigs, of course Beyoncé, and the Pinkprint was a crucial point in developing my love for music, so definitely Nicki Minaj.
What’s your favorite Black Owned Business?
At the moment it’s Telfar – I love the concept of an affordable high fashion product while also uplifting a Black and up-and-coming designer.
What would you like people to learn about Black culture?
There are so many different nationalities that encompass Black culture, and I encourage more people to discover and appreciate more of them!
